It is with deep sadness that I must tell you one of Disability Art and Culture Project’s founders, and our longest-serving director, Kathy Coleman, passed away this past weekend. Arrangements are currently being made for a memorial and celebration of Kathy’s life. As soon as we have details, they will be shared here, as well as on all of DACP’s social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter) and sent to our email subscribers.
This was very unexpected to all of Kathy’s family, friends and colleagues. Our hope is to be able to continue the vital work Kathy committed herself to, focusing on Disability Justice, equity and freedom for all people, disabled and non-disabled alike.
There have been a number of tributes left already on Kathy’s personal Facebook page, and local filmmaker Cheryl Green just dedicated the latest episode of the Pigeonhole Podcast to Kathy. The most recent podcast can be found here.
Clearly, this is a time of change for Disability Art and Culture Project. If you can offer support through volunteering, please fill out the form below–you can also email [email protected] with any questions. You are also welcome to donate to DACP in any form you see fit. The options to give are listed here.
Please feel free to leave a comment below about Kathy and how you knew her.
